Medical Center (2020)

Overview
This district was named after the large quantity of medical centers and related facilities present in the area, though the upscale environment was designed for this purpose since the beginning, with zoning ordinances reserved for notorious medical corporations and other hospital facilities such as the Crisis Medical Center. Thanks to these services, the district was mostly clean, even in the worst years of the city during the 2000s. NCTC bus connections to other parts of Central & South Night City were available through lines 17, 22, 23, 68 and 72.
Notable corporations with businesses in or around the Medical Center included the Trauma Team and REO Meatwagon hospital centers; ALL-RX Drugs, known for the prescriptions they delivered to the many outpatients here; or Medicross Preservation and Medical Technologies, both of whom were major donors of body parts. Due to the major concentration of health-oriented businesses in this district, it was one most crowded in Night City, and around 2020 the volume of visitors was so high that the city was planning to construct a vast skyway that would interlink this neighborhood with the rest of the city to allow a greater volume of traffic. The Silver Slash gang territory occupied most of Medical Center, however, they were protectors of its streets, thus their presence was very popular among the residents. Unfortunately, the recent construction of the nearby Transit Center worried the locals, as it attracted many violent gangs to the neighborhood. These worries caused the local security to be redoubled. The northern streets were mostly safe, however, as the Municipal Criminal Justice Complex had an imposing presence in the area.[1]
During the Fourth Corporate War, most companies left while Militech and Arasaka fought each other. During an assault on the nearby Arasaka Towers, a nuclear device went off, causing the Night City Holocaust. This event destroyed much of the City & Corporate District, turning the area into what would be known as the Hot Zone. The ruins of the Old Medical Center were part of that wasteland.[2]
