Central Night City
Central Night City is the governing body and administrative center of Night City, characterized by its democratic mayoralty and corporate influence.
Government Structure
The Government of Night City is headquartered at the Night City City Hall in the Glen. Night City operates as a democratic mayoralty with a corporate-controlled city council. The Night City Council consists of 100 members, usually backed by top corporations, and members are elected by these corporations. The mayor of Night City serves as the city's highest governing representative, overseeing the treasurer's office and directing heads of city departments. The mayor has the authority to appoint and remove department heads and commissioners.
Elections and Political Climate
Votes in mayoral elections are cast via a Data Term using IdentiCard registration software. Night City Council elections occur regularly, with candidates such as Emilio Gutierrez participating. In 2045, the government was in a technical state of emergency due to the Night City Holocaust of 2023, during which the office of mayor was left vacant for years. The City Council took the form of a junta representing various factions and corporations, leading to friction and disputes sometimes settled with violence.
City Management
City Managers, elected by the Night City Council, were responsible for local sections of the Data Pool, handling zoning designations for corporations and neighborhoods, managing road infrastructure taxes, and overseeing police licensing. Night City has official citywide agencies for law enforcement and emergency services.
Historical Context
Mbole Ebunike served as mayor from 2012 until at least 2023. Night City did not have an appointed mayor from 2023 until Lucius Rhyne's election in 2070. Georgina Zembinsky acted as the district attorney of Night City in 2077, following Jefferson Peralez.
