Gottfrid Persson

Gottfrid Person is the father of Fredrik Persson and a braindance editor in Cyberpunk 2077.

Biography

Gottfrid built up a lucrative infrastructure within Maelstrom to produce illegal braindances (XBDs) featuring real murder scenes. In that capacity he does not only produce and refine the "merchandise" together with his son Fredrik, but also seems to have extensive control over the selection and acquisition of the victims. These included the son of Bryce Stone, who tasked fixer Regina Jones to retrieve the XBD for clues on the murderers. Adam Ibrahimovic, co-owner of the Empathy club, also supplied Gottfrid with material to work on. Gottfrid's and Fredrik's work garnered enough reputation to have potential clients reach out to them, including one asking about an XBD on Evelyn Parker's murder. Gottfrid also has control over the distribution of the product, which appears to have involved XBD street dealer Lenny Nero.

Having many enemies, Gottfrid's database is well protected, which caused at least one netrunner hired by Regina Jones to be fried in an attempt to access it. Moreover, his power within Maelstrom seems to be substantial as he not only sends his "boys" to hardware acquisition raids, but also has a large detail of goons protecting him and his son.

In 2077, fixer Regina Jones sends merc V to Gottfrid's hideout to retrieve an XBD that might contain information on the murder of a client's son. V finds both Gottfrid and his son unaware while editing an XBD. As V gets their attention, they both plea for their lives, falsely claiming that they only refine the braindances based on dead drops provided by Maelstrom and therefore are not complicit in any murder. V can then retrieve the XBD themselves or force them to tell the merc where it is. During this conversation, V has the choice of killing either, both, or neither of them before leaving. Only killing Fredrik, who just calls Gottfrid "papa", causes him to collapse in agony and crying out "Freddy! No!".

Gottfrid's work is the stuff of another person's nightmares. Nightmares often come true in Night City, and when they do, he takes them (or buys them) and edits them to turn a profit. As a matter of fact, he's fairly well-respected in the obscure circle of illegal braindance editors. He's a craftsman without a conscience - an advantage in his line of work. If the material is good, Gottfrid will take a raw BD from anyone and fine-tune the emotions, no questions asked. The closest person to him is his son, Fredrik, whom he taught and trained in his craft. When they're not editing together, they manage a deep net site.
