The Back Alley Brawlers, also known as the Back Bay Brawlers, were a gang operating in Night City.

History

2010s

This protective "gang" was created when the Slaughterhouse went on a killing spree at a local subway station in Night City during the late 2010s. By the time the NCPD arrived, the violent gang had killed over two dozen people. The Back Alley Brawlers were formed in reaction to this bloodbath, and ever since were at war with bands like the Slaughterhouse.

The Brawlers were old fashioned vigilantes; good-hearted street toughs helped out by the occasional well-armed businessman, retired solos, or local juviegangers. They fought fire with fire, and their only piece of uniform clothing was a black beret. There were unsubstantiated rumors of Brawlers running a protection racket in the area, though the NCPD choose to ignore this darker side of the gang in light of their positive effects. Membership was open to anyone who could take care of themselves on the street and were willing to help.

Prior to 2020, many gang fights were started to see who could control the blocks around the Metalstrom bar in the Upper Eastside. To settle this, it was decided that one representative of each gang would fight inside the Slammer's arena. This mass brawl resulted with the Back Alley Brawlers coming on top, winning their right to protect the surroundings of the Metalstrom. Due to this, the large local chromer population in Upper Eastside was kept in check by the Brawlers. Even the locals began relying more on the gang than the police.[2]

2020s

By 2020, the Back Alley Brawlers begun posting a "code of conduct" in the ganger walls around the district which simply stated "If you're going to do it, make sure we don't find out." Most gangs around Upper Eastside avoided them, hoping someone else would take the Brawlers out, but for the time being no one had been able to do the job.[2]

At some point after the Fourth Corporate War, the Brawlers found themselves in a leadership struggle. Most thought Grace Steel would take the reigns, but she instead decided to walk away. With the lack of a strong leadership, the Brawlers fell apart soon after. Despite this, former members kept in touch. During the 2040s, Grace and some former Brawlers still hanged out together at the Forlorn Hope and helped when something happened around.[1][3]
