Coronado Dam
This article is about the dam in Santo Domingo. For the one in Laguna Bend, see Laguna Bend Dam.Coronado Dam[1][2] is an arch dam located in the Santo Domingo district of southeastern Night City, between the district's border and the Badlands.
Overview
Located in one of the poorest areas of Santo Domingo, by 2077 Coronado Dam — with a large white Petrochem logo on its front — was to all appearances abandoned, with the doors leading into the structure barred and with no personnel present. There was an edifice on the southwestern side of the dam, and a parking lot to the northeast. Following the road west led to a viewpoint that had one of the best views of Night City.
The reservoir basin lied empty of water and was instead overrun with junk from the neighboring municipal landfill. At some point there was a large quantity of water, as seen from the shoreline marks alongside the basin's wall. The dam to the south prevented Laguna Bend from emptying its waters here.[3]
History
Coronado Dam was built in the late 20th century as a reservoir to provide water and electricity to nearby towns and homesteads, being one of the first large-scale constructions in the area.[2][1]
During the 2040s, a nomad campsite was located near the dam's base.[4] Although the water was potable, the reservoir had been steadily drooping its level, making it more difficult to garner that resource.[5]
At some point, the reservoir completely dried up and the dam was abandoned. Much of the remaining basin was used as a dumpsite ever since, filled with Night City's trash.[2][1]
Around 2062, NC Dam Ltd. built a new dam on the southern side of the basin, creating the reservoir of Laguna Bend.[6] In 2077, ecologists were demanding a clean-up of the Coronado Dam basin, and activists had already presented an official petition to the City Council.[7]

A multimillion eurodollar undertaking, an industrial feat, two million hectoliters of toxic water and hundreds of flooded homes. Welcome to the Badlands. When the dam was under construction, it was obvious there would also be a reservoir – which sounded great in theory. The townsfolk put that piece of knowledge in the back of their heads and didn't stop to wonder why they needed a dam, why here of all places, and who was profiting from it. Spoiler alert: it wasn't the town's residents, and since losers don't get to write history, any memory of them and their tragedy evaporated from the collective consciousness as quickly as the morning dew on a hot summer's morning.

Notes
- The dataterm on the eastern side of the dam was originally called "Tama Viewpoint" before being updated to "Dam Viewpoint." The word "tama" can be translated to "dam" in Polish.
- Early Cyberpunk 2077 maps show only this one dam while the reservoir in Laguna Bend extended here. It is unknown why another dam was created for the videogame.
