Heywood was an overpacked suburb located southeast of central Night City during the Time of the Red.

History

2020s - 2030s

This area was originally the industrial city of Heywood, plus portions of the neighboring Rancho Coronado. Prior to the Fourth Corporate War, this region housed many beaverville and industrial areas that got overwhelmed during the war, when droves of refugees climbed over themselves to get to safe spots like Heywood and Pacifica. Then the Night City Holocaust occurred and refuges from around the metropolitan area flooded the surrounding suburbs, constructing multitude of tent cities.

Over the following years, Heywood became overcrowded with homeless citizens who either fled other areas of Night City because of the war or who were pushed out due to the ongoing gentrification of the Rebuilding Urban Center. When the nomads begun to reconstruct Night City, they built their main campsite in this region.[1][2]

2040s - 2060s

By the 2040s, the area of Heywood was one of the Overpacked Suburbs of central Night City, housing a large percentage of its population. It was already starting to divide based on wealth and power, as the rich gathered in North Heywood, while the poor lived in the southern Santo Domingo. The Heywood Industrial Zone was kept mostly intact, and continued to work as intended, despite the many tent cities occupying the area. Even in the middle of this chaos, ongoing development projects were still arranged, which included megabuildings to house the displaced population and plans to rebuild the NCART lines above ground and extend them to cover all the districts in the city.[1]

By 2045, the new Heywood Docks district was established with major corporate sponsors to compete against the nomad families working sea shipping in Night City.[3]
