Little China (2020)

History
1990s - 2010s
Distinct enough to the neighboring Japantown, this district was designed to reflect the individual cultural styles found throughout China, though there were also a smattering of other Southeast Asian locales.[2] Its architecture was inspired after other old typical Chinatowns, and it included many fine restaurants and curio shops. It was considered a neighborhood of light commercial properties, retail shops, and apartment complexes to the eastward. There were also NCTC bus connections to other parts of Central & South Night City, which were available through lines 17, 23, 51 and 68. NCART connections with the metropolitan area were available as well.[1]
Some of the oldest buildings in Night City were located here, many dating back to before the original urban plan, when it was known as the township of Morro Bay. Over the years, however, the encroaching development of the northern districts steadily pushed Little China southward, with many locals structures marked for demolition and urban renewal, though for a time this stopped due to the Mob War. Most of the Little China blocks were cordoned off for pedestrians use only, including many small shops, restaurants and open air markets.
In 2018, the skyline of the district changed when the new Night City Police Headquarters was inaugurated, becoming the most dominant building in the area. In addition, the new Transit Center became the central hub for the city transit system, though there were concerns that due to the high density of passengers gangs would become a common sight in the streets, rendering Little China as a much dangerous district.[1]
2020s
By 2020, the local Chinese community lacked the resources of the neighboring Japanese, and were forced to draw the line themselves in order to stop the gentrification, realizing they would otherwise soon end up being part of the nearby Combat Zone to the south. Developers for new projects found it hard to work in Little China, as the district was ruled by the local street tongs, who kept sabotaging construction equipment and terrorizing workers. Additionally, a recent influx of money from Southeast Asia made it possible to keep the district firmly in local hands. If there was someone who had the most power in Little China, that was David Ling Po, leader of the local Weng Fang Tong, who monitored much of the district.[1]
The Fourth Corporate War was devastating for both Japantown and Little China. Its residents would eventually move north to the Watson Development, while areas of the damaged district soon became a part of the Combat Zones, and later the Glen.[2]
