The Arasaka Headquarters Bombing, also known as the Night City Holocaust, was a catastrophic nuclear event that occurred on August 20, 2023, resulting in widespread destruction and loss of life in Night City.

Overview

The Arasaka Headquarters Bombing, referred to as the Night City Holocaust, was a nuclear disaster that took place in Night City on August 20, 2023. By this time, Night City was under the full control of the Arasaka Corporation, led by CEO Kei Arasaka. The bombing was part of a larger conflict involving Militech and the United States, which sought to undermine Arasaka's influence.

The Bombing

The bombing was executed by a Militech incursion team with the objective of erasing the Soulkiller 3.0 program and retrieving Alt Cunningham from the Arasaka network. The mission involved multiple strike teams, including Strike Team Beta and Strike Team Omega, with the ultimate goal of using a tactical nuclear device to destroy the Reliquary Database located in the subbasement of the Arasaka Towers. On the day of the bombing, a nuclear device detonated on the 120th floor of the eastern tower, obliterating the Arasaka Towers and causing extensive damage to the surrounding area.

Casualties and Aftermath

The explosion resulted in the immediate incineration of over 12,000 people, with half a million more suffering fatal injuries due to the blast. In the weeks and months following the event, a quarter million additional deaths occurred as a result of the disaster. The entire City & Corporate District was turned into ruins, and Night City became barely habitable within 24 hours of the detonation.

Political Repercussions

In the aftermath of the bombing, US President Elizabeth Kress blamed the attack on the Arasaka Corporation, claiming that Militech was involved in supplying the weapon used in the attack. Following the disaster, President Kress nationalized Militech and placed it under the control of the US military, while Arasaka forces were banished from the continental USA. The event marked a significant turning point in the Fourth Corporate War, leading to the nationalization of assets by various nations.

Theories and Speculations

Various theories have emerged regarding the true nature of the bombing, including suggestions of an inside job or a failed experiment under the Arasaka Tower. Corporate PR machines disseminated narratives involving unidentified terrorist groups, further complicating the public's understanding of the event.
