Zaibatsus? They all died out after WWII... Our company? It's just one of the banks, nothing special.

Overview

Fujiwara is one of the biggest corporations in the financial world, and is major bank in Asia. They specialize in banking, insurance, securities, rental properties, and leases. Its most major shareholder, Shiozawa Tomito, owned 41% of its stock in 2020.

Fujiwara was considered a main bank, one of the characteristics of a Japanese corporate group. The dividends on Japanese stocks are low, so ordinary investors don't get them properly, except for minor speculation. Therefore, corporations do not get much working funds from stock sales, so they depend on bank loans capital.

The bank controls other corporations through the use of loaned cash. It can exert pressure on the company's board of directors to follow policies beneficial to the main bank, or can even takeover through threat of foreclosure. Fujiwara has set up a keiretsu system, and controls corporations that aren't under the Fujiwara name via cash control. They use this power to build up the Fujiwara group, and you can tell a subordinate company by the superior attitude of visiting Fujiwara staff.[1]
