The HJSH-18 Masamune (Japanese: 正宗) is a Power Assault Rifle manufactured by Arasaka in Cyberpunk 2077.

Characteristics

Based on the Nowaki from the early 21st century, the Masamune is a high-quality assault rifle designed in the 2050s. Like its predecessor, it fires exclusively in highly accurate, three-round bursts. The weapon has a 24-round magazine with an average reload time. In the lore, the Masumane is waterproof and can be used underwater.

It is possible to install a Scope and Muzzle attachment.

Notes

• Despite not being able to switch between firing modes in Cyberpunk 2077, the Masamune has a switch near the trigger that would allow it to change between firing one or three rounds.
• In Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, it is fully automatic.
• According to Mike Kowalski's computer, the Masumane is waterproof and can be used underwater.

Trivia

• The name of the weapon can be a reference to one of the following:
  • Japan's greatest swordsmith Gorō Nyūdō Masamune.
  • Daimyō Masamune Date, a leader and legendary samurai from the sengoku period, (many of the Arasaka weapons are seemingly named after Japanese daimyōs).
  • Mangaka Masamune Shirow, creator of the Ghost in the Shell franchise.
