Patch 2.0
Patch 2.0 introduced significant changes to the character V in Cyberpunk 2077, including updates to their birthdate and various gameplay elements.
Character Overview
V is a mercenary involved in events during the year 2077 and serves as the playable protagonist of Cyberpunk 2077. Players can customize V's character by selecting a gender and customizing their appearance, including depictions of breasts and genitalia. Players can choose between three Lifepaths: Nomad, Streetkid, or Corpo, each affecting the introductory questline and dialogue options.
Background and Story
V has one of three backgrounds based on their chosen Lifepath. For instance, V grew up in the American wilderness as part of the Bakkers nomad family, made their first kill at age 16, and later left their family after it merged with Snake Nation. Alternatively, V could have been raised in a corpo family from Charter Hill, where they enlisted into the Arasaka Corporation and became a high-ranking counterintelligence operative.
Gameplay Changes in Patch 2.0
In Patch 2.0, V's birthdates were changed to October 12, 2053 for both male and female versions. This change was attributed to miscommunication between departments, as noted by Paweł Sasko. By the beginning of Act 1, V is considered a mid-tier edgerunner, with their megabuilding apartment indicating their status.
Character Relationships and Development
Throughout the game, V interacts with various characters, including Jackie Welles, who writes quest descriptions in V's journal during the Prologue and Act 1, while Johnny Silverhand takes over writing in Act 2. V has a tendency to be forgetful and prefers text messages over calls, with their first name being used by specific characters during certain quests.
