North Carolina is a state within the New United States of America.

Overview

North Carolina was hit heavily by climate change, sinking the coastal swamplands and flooding several hundred acres of land. Rats and mosquitoes then rose to endemic proportions, spreading diseases such as the Wasting Plague. The population then began congregating in the big cities, only furthering problems, and disease wiped Jacksonville and Wilmington off the maps. The coastal swamplands are now uninhabitable, and even rumours of pirates along the coast are likely untrue as there is nothing to raid.

Despite all of this, tobacco farming and international corporate interests allowed the country’s economy to restore itself very quickly. Large swathes of land were bought up as most owners thought the area would all flood eventually. It’s considered a "low-brow" state despite its economy, and people often leave the state for better-paying jobs elsewhere.

By 2077, almost all of North Carolina was even more severely flooding. In the latest flood, the water level rose as far as the city of Jacksonville, forcing nomad clans to move inland.
