Highway 828
Interstate Highway 828[1] (also known as State Highway 828[2] or California State 828[3]) was a major southwest-northeast road that went through Northern California.
Overview
Starting in the Heywood suburb of Night City, Highway 828 stretched east across the Badlands, then northeast well into Northern California, continuing towards Stateline and connecting with Interstate 5.[2][1][3] In Night City it also connected with highways 126, 928, and Road 16.[1]
In the 2010s and 2020s, 828 was open to free transit by civilians vehicles. NorCal air patrols tried to maintain security in the highway and neighboring roads, and by 2020 they had reduced the marauding forces to half of its 2013 strength.[1]
The Time of the Red saw a vast increase on road ganger activity on 828, though by the 2040s it began to decrease. The reason was thought to be the increasing presence of nomads and security forces, though since much of the highway lacked presence of law enforcement authority, the statistics were likely skewed. One certainty, however, was that gangers were less active on roadways used by large paramilitary units.[4]
Notes
- In the non-canon Cyberpunk Version 3.0, 828 goes from Night City, through Stateline (connecting with Interstate 5), until it reaches Fresno (connecting with Sate Route 99).[5]
- Based on direction and connections, it's likely 828 is the Interstate 9 from Cyberpunk 2077.
