This jacket belonged to David Martinez, a famous edgerunner of Night City. It was originally a REO Meatwagon EMT jacket owned by David's mother, Gloria.[1][2]

After Gloria passed away, David began to wear it. Inspired by the projected logos on the back that Lucy tested while tinkering with the jacket,[3] David eventually painted a logo on the cloth's back.[4] This logo originally represented Jimmy Kurosaki's Edgerunners XBD series.

The jacket was left in the back of the crew's Chevillon Emperor when David equipped the prototype Arasaka exo-skeleton. During his confrontation with Adam Smasher, Falco and Lucy escaped with their car, and the jacket was still in the back seat when David sacrificed himself to distract Smasher.[5]

The jacket, alongside other belongings of the crew, where hidden by Falco in a storage area in the eastern Badlands. These items were stolen by a former Valentino called Dalton, but were later recovered by a mercenary crew. The aforementioned crew discovered how the jacket had a damaged transponder and a working sensor array containing data on David's resistance to cyberpsychosis and the Cyberskeleton, which prompted Arasaka's desire to reclaim the jacket.[2]

In 2077, Falco was still in possession of the jacket when he was contacted by V. After a brief conversation, he acknowledged V having many resemblances with David, and gifted the jacket to the merc, wishing them luck.[6]

Notes

  • The lining of the jacket's collar is a uniformly glowing blue surface in the anime, but in the game it is a display panel which is constantly scrolling blue data on a black background.
  • The two straps hanging from the jacket are not part of the jacket itself, but the suspenders from David's pants. While V wears the jacket, the suspenders will still be present even if no other clothing is worn.
