A GUIDE TO YOUR WEEKEND IN TYCHO.

Chapter 1: History Tycho was founded in 1997 by the European Space Council. The moon was an obvious location for a number of reasons: the presence of gravity and the naturally soft terrain facilitated the construction of the first human settlement in space. By 2020, most of Tycho's infrastructure had been moved beneath the surface. A vast network of caves and tunnels were dug using nuclear pumped lasers, while ceilings were reinforced with layers of lunar sand. Green plant reserves soon filled the spacious caverns, which to this day provide most of the colony's oxygen supply. Chapter 2: Present day
According to the 2075 census, Tycho's residents number 40,000 and is one of Luna's two thriving cities (the other being Copernicus with a population of approx. 18,000). The transport of minerals from Tycho to Earth as well as Crystal Palace is possible thanks to Mass Drivers (two on Tycho, one on Copernicus). In 2008 during the six-hour-long First Orbital War, a moon rock weighing two tons crashed into Colorado Springs, launched from a Mass Driver on Tycho. Casualties included the majority of the US Armed Forces command, bringing an immediate end to the conflict.

Chapter 3: Attractions
Your adventure to Tycho begins well before you even land! The lunar colony is located at the bottom of a 52 mile-wide and 2.8 mile-deep impact crater from which it takes its name. Commercial transportation services in Tycho offer additional orbital flights around Luna where you can see the dark side of the ivory satellite and revel in the unforgettable views of Earth vanishing behind its horizon.
Tycho's closest attractions are without a doubt the two operational Mass Drivers as well an ice mine. Popular day trips include the Tranquility Base where the Apollo 11 landed in 1969 and put the first man on the moon. Buzz Aldrin's legendary footprint can still be viewed in the small, but fascinating Museum of Space Colonization in Tycho.
It's worth extending your stay on Luna by another day just to visit its sister colony, Copernicus - famous for its zero-gravity pools.
