They Won't Go When I Go[Trivia 1] is a Side Job in Cyberpunk 2077.

Walkthrough

Some time after leaving the PieZ restaurant after talking with Joshua Stephenson and Rachel Casich, Rachel will call V to say that Joshua has requested their presence while he preparing for his crucifixion braindance.

If V refuses the first time:

V says they currently don't have time to come, which will cause Joshua to plead to V over the phone, claiming that they need V to be present during recording. Rachel tells V that they'll receive extra compensation for their time.
If V refuses again:
V apologizes and tells them that they are on their own.[Notes 1]

If V agrees:

V agrees to help out and heads to the Fourth Wall Studios, where there's a group of people protesting against "The Passion of Joshua"'s filming.[Trivia 2] As V approaches the gate, they are hailed by Vasquez, who tells V that Rachel has been waiting for them, and instructs V to go to the building down the street with the NCPD Officer out front. After the Officer let's V inside, they talk to Rachel, whom instructs them to talk to Joshua in the dressing room.

V approaches Joshua, and sits down on the stool in front of him. Joshua tells V that he is having second thoughts about recording the braindance and asks for V's opinion.[Notes 2] Eventually, Joshua will ask V to join him in prayer.

If V , and let's him pray:

V and Joshua clasp their hands, and Joshua will recite Saint Augustine's Prayer to the Holy Spirit.
"Breathe in me O Holy Spirit, that my thoughts may all be holy."
"Act in me O Holy Spirit, that my work, too, may be holy."
"Draw my heart O Holy Spirit, that I love but what is holy."
"Strengthen me O Holy Spirit, to defend all that is holy."
"Guard me, then, O Holy Spirit, that I always may be holy. Amen."

If V clasps hands with Joshua, and does the praying:

V and Joshua clasp their hands, and V recites a prayer.[Notes 3]

If V doesn't want to pray:

V refuses to join Joshua in prayer, making Joshua pray silently on his own.

A moment later, Rachel enters backstage and interrupts Joshua and V, stating that the time has come to record the braindance. Joshua asks V if they want to perform his crucifixion.

If V agrees to crucify Joshua:

V accepts to crucify Joshua. After picking up the hammer, and waiting for everyone to be in position, V nails Joshua's wrists and feet to the cross while reciting the lines from the teleprompter.[Notes 4][Notes 5]
If V does not quit during the recording:
V presses the button to raise the cross, and waits for Joshua to pass.[Notes 6]
If V quits at any point during the recording:
V says that they are unable to continue with nailing Joshua to the cross, and another actor continues to fulfill the role instead. The actor presses the button and raises the cross, as V waits for Joshua to pass.[Notes 6]
Afterwards, V talks with Rachel, who will tell V that they'll reach out to V at a later point for their payment.

If V refuses to crucify Joshua, but agrees to stay:

V refuses to perform Joshua's crucifixion, and witnesses another actor fulfill the role instead.[Notes 4] After the crucifixion is finished and the cross is raised, V waits until Joshua has passed.[Notes 6] Before leaving, V talks with Rachel, who will tell V that they'll reach out to V at a later point for their payment.

If V refuses to participate and leaves the area:

V refused to partake in Joshua's crucifixion and left the Fourth Wall Studios.

V is contacted by Rachel again two days later, and she tells V that the braindance has been published.

If V was supportive of Joshua's actions:

Rachel exclaims that the braindance was a hit and thanks V for their help, and promises a bonus for them. After the call finishes, she will transfer V a moderate sum of eurodollars.

If V was not being supportive:

Rachel tells V that the braindance was of poor quality, and is angry with them. Despite this, she will transfer V a small sum of eurodollars.

    Notes

    1. Choosing this option will conclude the job and stop V from receiving any rewards.
    2. Throughout the quest chain, the dialogue choices made by V on how to speak to Joshua will affect the outcome and its influence. Choosing supportive statements and asking honest questions will increase Joshua's confidence, while criticizing his plan or steering the conversation away from religion will instill doubt in him.
    3. When V is picking a prayer, they have four options to choose from:
      • The Lord's Prayer: "Our Father, who art in Heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen."
      • A fragment of the Amidah: "Pardon us our Father for we have sinned against Thee. Forgive us our King for we have transgressed; for You are a good and forgiving God. Blessed are You Lord, gracious One who pardons abundantly. O behold our affliction and wage our battle; redeem us speedily for the sake of Your Name, for you God are the mighty redeemer. Blessed are You, Lord, Redeemer of Israel."
      • The hymn from the Rigveda: "Giver of vital breath, of power and vigour, he whose commandments all the Gods acknowledge. The Lord of death, whose shade is life immortal. What God shall we adore with our oblation? Ne'er may he harm us who is Earth's Begetter, nor he whose laws are sure, the heavens' Creator. He who brought forth the great and lucid waters. What God shall we adore with our oblation?"
      • Their own prayer: "Lord, through Your divine wisdom and guidance, You bestow great fortune. I pray You do so this day, upon Joshua, upon me."
    4. 4.0 4.1 The nails used on Joshua are hammered into his wrists, which is in contrast with the usual depiction of nails in Jesus' palms. However, some believe that wrist-nailing was the historically-used method because it pins the victim's remains in place for longer.
      • Most victims of crucifixion take hours or days to die. However, Joshua dies within a minute of the cross being raised.
    5. As V nails Joshua to the cross, Johnny Silverhand will appear and recite some lines.
    6. 6.0 6.1 6.2 As the cross is raised, Johnny Silverhand will project himself, and pays his respects to Joshua.

    Trivia

    1. The job is named after the Stevie Wonder song "They Won't Go When I Go" from the 1974 album "Fulfillingness' First Finale."
    2. One of the protestors can be seen inciting the others with the "Lament Over Fallen Babylon" from Revelation 18 of the Book of Revelation.
