Arasaka DaiOni
The DaiOni is an Assisted Combat Personal Armor manufactured by Arasaka in Cyberpunk 2020. Due to the lack of life support and specific wiring, it can only be piloted by a Full Body Conversion individual.
Ohman ohman ohman. I've only heard rumors of this beauty. If it really exists, I want one. What do I have to do? Who do I have to kill? I want I want I want! Heh heh. Time for flesh to diiiiiiie.
Overview
The Brushfire Wars of 2018 caused the destruction of an Arasaka installation off the coast of China, which, according to the company's best generals, was perpetuated by a single IEC Dragoon full body conversion. CEO Kei Arasaka saw this embarrassing defeat as an opportunity, as it opened his eyes to the possibilities of combat cyborg full-body replacements. Kei ordered his scientists and technicians to began a program to experiment with and recruit combat cyborgs. The program produced some marked successes, including a number of full cyborg spies and assassins. However, Kei's scientists were not able to better IECs' success, as it seemed that the Dragoon model would remain the preeminent combat full cyborg until new advances in technology could improve upon it. Disappointed by this failure, Kei lowered his sights and ordered his researchers to just produce a better combat cyborg, something that could haul heavier weapons and armor instead of being lighter and faster.
After much work, the result of this program was the DaiOni, which was considered the first interlocked cyborg body/ACPA. This "Super Demon" was a block of armor and servos devoted to relentless destruction. Not that its size was any more impressive than Russian Arms' massive Boris 1 suit, or its armament more destructive than many Militech Commando variants. Instead, what made the DaiOni different was its user, as it was not piloted by a standard human. The ACPA's internal circuitry didn't allow it, as there was no life support at all nor the need for automedics. The DaiOni was concepted to be piloted by a modified IEC Alpha Class full cyborg body, one that had incredible inhuman reflexes and speed, specialized to run this ACPA suit. The FCB was directly wired into the DaiOni suit, converting its myriad sensor scans into direct neural input. The once human inhabiting the biopod "became" the suit when fitted with the Alpha body, combining a myriad of cyberware with the suit's impressive strength and incredible maneuverability to make the FBC feel like an unstoppable machine.
By 2022, Arasaka's technicians had only produced a handful of these ACPAs, as they were a deep corporate secret whose testing had been very hesitant, since it only took one of these machines to go hardwire and completely destroy the laboratory and kill all the individuals tasked with manufacturing it. So, while in the middle of the Fourth Corporate War and with the DaiOni not really fully tested, deploying one was considered either an act of desperation, or the critical field test Kei wanted so desperately.[1]
Description
The DaiOni is a 3.4 meter, 1.12 ton ACPA, with an internal circuitry that has no life supports nor automedics. The actual brains of the operation is a biopod brain, normally kept out of the sanity-smashing environment of the DaiOni's control interface. Using a modified IEC Alpha Class full cyborg body, the FCB is directly wired into the DaiOni suit, converting its myriad sensor scans into direct neural input. It is a heady experience: pain editors, combat programming, and "super-ego" sensor preprocessors combine with the suit's impressive strength and incredible maneuverability to make the 'borg feel like an unstoppable machine: the DaiOni is as fast as many cars (MA 20), and is actually quicker than the IEC Dragoon. The Alpha-class user REF 15 is boosted by the suit to a total of 17. And the suit's sensors and boosted power give it +6 to Initiative rolls. All at a mere 16D6+30 Humanity Cost.[1]
Special Equipment
Virtual reality interface, high reflex boost, communications suite (military radio, cell phone, scrambler, laser communicator), sensor suite (back-up visual sensors, W camera, and two "horn" sensor extensions on the head (these extensions act like 67cm-long "rabbit ear" periscopes for all sensors)), IR baffling, ECM and ECCM (in the right and left legs respectively), 2 EMP capacitors (can absorb magnetic blasts, with only a 50% chance of shorting out), climber claws on each hand and foot (these allow the DaiOni to climb obstacles and buildings, as well as acting as weapons).[1]
Stock Armament
Tsunami GL in the right arm (three extra clips), Oni autoshotgun in the left arm (one extra clip), a retractable mono-sword in each arm, 12.7mm machinegun mounted on the outside of the right arm (two extra belts), light ATGM mounted on the outside of the left arm (two extra shots), and hand-held EMG-83 railgun (two extra clips). Defenses include laser and radar detectors linked to four external ribbon and IR smoke canisters.[1]
- Light ATGM: Heavy, +2, 12D10HEAT, 1, 1, VR, 1000m, 4m burst radius
- EMG-83: Heavy, +2, 5D10+10AP, 10, 1, ST, 1000m
- Mono-Sword: Melee, +1, 8D10AP, will shatter 30% of the time when fumbled
- Climber Claws: Melee, +1, 7D10 (8D10 kick)
Notes
- Despite the requirement of an IEC Alpha Class FBC to pilot the DaiOni, Adam Smasher was able to do it with his NovelTech Samson.[1]
