 — REO Meatwagon Rocks![1], Cyberpunk RED

R.E.O. Meatwagon Inc.[2] is a corporation that provides paramedical services, known for its rivalry with Trauma Team.

History

2010s - 2020s

Although REO had an extensive clientele of their own, they were infamous for attempting to show up to a rival corp call before them to pick up the wounded, or directly ambushing them with their AV-4 to steal the client. These actions were known as "meat jumping" and despite being illegal, it was extremely difficult to prove in court. This led to many violent encounters with REO's rival, Trauma Team.[3][1]

In 2013, REO attempted to forcibly prevent TT from receiving supplies from the Savannah Medical Supply Warehouse in Night City, but this blockade was stopped by the NCPD who were called in after a shipment to the nearby Crisis Medical Center was waylaid.

The increasing numbers of incidents between REO and TT begun an escalation in violence between the two companies and by 2020, REO started to hire extra solos to protect its Night City offices in case of direct action by Trauma Team.[3]

In 2023, during the Fourth Corporate War, REO discontinued their AV ambulance services over a dozen cities, as it needed to conserve fuel supplies for cities with major problems.[4]

2030s - 2040s

REO Meatwagon continued to operate after the Fourth Corporate War. In the 2040s and with a fleet of armored ambulances, REO Meatwagon's questionable business model of "meat jumping" was still practised, charging rival corps' clients exorbitant prices for medical treatment should they survive.[1]

2070s

In the 2070s, REO operated in Night City as a cut-rate, no frills emergency medical service contracted by the city to take the cases Trauma Team wouldn't, which was the majority of them. Unlike TT, REO stayed on the ground in very old ambulances. Rumors abounded that at least half of its patients didn't reach the hospitals alive, with some not even arriving at all. As such, the idea that REO and the city scavengers worked together was widespread. This didn't mean all REO paramedics were bad, as a few genuinely tried to do a good job.[5]

REO Meatwagon was always looking for ways to improve their gains, so they sold the data of their patients and employees. To help with the second, they manufactured two devices they incorporated into their medtechs' yellow field jackets; a tracker and an external biomonitor to record the paramedics biometrical data. Instead of connecting the device to a transmitter, REO waited for their employees to return the jacket after ending their shifts in order to collect the data.[6]
