Muzzle, also known as V, is a mercenary and the playable protagonist of Cyberpunk 2077. Players can customize V's character, including selecting a gender and defining their background through three Lifepaths: Nomad, Streetkid, or Corpo. Each Lifepath begins in a different location around Night City and affects dialogue options and unlocks specific side quests.

Background and Early Life

V grew up in the American wilderness as part of the Bakkers nomad family, where life on the road was challenging. They made their first kill at the age of 16, killing a Raffen Shiv scout. V later left their family after it merged with Snake Nation and made contact with Jackie Welles to smuggle Arasaka contraband.

Career and Major Events

V's journey includes various significant events, such as being hired to steal a Relic from Yorinobu Arasaka and retrieving a Flathead from the Maelstrom gang. V and Jackie successfully retrieved the Relic from Konpeki Plaza, but the mission ended in tragedy when Jackie was mortally wounded, and V was shot by Dexter DeShawn.

The Relic and Its Consequences

After the incident, V learned that the Relic was overriding their consciousness with an engram of Johnny Silverhand, leaving them with only a short time left to live. V's quest to remove the Relic led them to various allies and confrontations with Arasaka forces.

Final Decisions and Fate

As V contemplates their options, they face a critical choice regarding their future. Depending on the player's decisions, V can either accept becoming an engram or return to Night City, leading to different outcomes.
