The Mayor of Night City serves as the highest governing representative of the city, overseeing various departments and the city council.

Government Structure

Night City operates as a democratic mayoralty with a corporate-controlled city council. The Night City Council consists of 100 members, typically backed by one of the top ten largest corporations. Votes in mayoral elections are cast via a Data Term using IdentiCard registration software, and the winner is determined by a simple majority of the popular vote. The mayor oversees the treasurer's office and directs the heads of the city's departments, possessing the power to appoint and remove department heads and commissioners.

Historical Context

In 2045, Night City's government was in a technical state of emergency due to the Night City Holocaust of 2023, which left the office of mayor vacant for years during the Time of the Red. The City Council took the form of a junta representing various factions and corporations. It was not until 2070 that Night City had an appointed mayor again after the AHQ Disaster of 2023.

Notable Mayors

Mbole Ebunike served as mayor from 2012 until at least 2023. In 2070, Councilman Lucius Rhyne was elected mayor, marking the first time the office was filled since the construction of the new City Hall. Rhyne was later attacked in 2077, and his death was covered up as a cardiac implant malfunction. Following Rhyne, Jefferson Peralez was elected as Night City's mayor.
