This article is about the dam in Laguna Bend. For the dam in Santo Domingo, see Coronado Dam.

Laguna Bend Dam is a gravity dam located in the reservoir of Laguna Bend, in the southeastern Badlands of Night City.

Overview

Found southeast of Santo Domingo, the structure currently prevents Laguna Bend from emptying its waters on the drained basin to the north, which is occupied by part of the overfilled municipal landfill and the old Coronado Dam. A road goes above the structure itself, all the way to a collapsed tunnel to the east.

Personnel keeps this facility in pristine condition, and it has at least three more additional edifices; one located on the western side, made of of two buildings, another one on the eastern side, made of of a smaller single structure; and a large facility on the reservoir's shores east of the dam proper. Despite no water flowing out of the structure, two of its five gates are open when inspected.[1]

History

Main article: Laguna Bend

Around mid 2062, the terrains around the township of Laguna Bend were bought by NC Dam Ltd. — a corporation who planed to turn the region into a reservoir. Some of the townsfolk left while the ones that ignored the municipal directives and stayed became victims of a corporate smear campaign which identified them as "agents of public unrest," people who were preventing necessary construction in order to secure access to clean water for all of Night City. As a result, public opinion quickly turned against the residents of Laguna Bend and few paid attention to the change in police tactics and open violence against them.[2] In the end, all residents were forced to leave the town, and the few who still wanted to stay were forced out by the police. By the time the newly constructed dam was operational, the whole settlement was already submerged.

The project did not work out as the the lake's water was deemed too contaminated.[3]

Fifteen years later in 2077, the water was not as toxic, and with good diving equipment it was possible to safely dive into its depths.[3]
