Early Life

Due to being the son of a high ranking Arasaka executive, Katsuo was able to attend the expensive Arasaka Academy, where he would eventually meet David Martinez.[1]

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners

During one day at school, David's outdated braindance wreath spiked the rest of his class due to a faulty software update, angering Katsuo.

The next morning, Tanaka and his friends ambushed David. They took him to a back-alley in Memorial Park, where Tanaka verbally antagonized him, and then beat him up with a martial arts chipware. Later that day, Katsuo called David and mocked him about his mother's death.

Katsuo's bullying would be the inspiration for David Martinez to implant himself with the black market Sandevistan he had found among his mother's belongings.[1]

The next day, David went to Arasaka Academy and beat up Katsuo using his recently installed Sandevistan. Due to David's high compatibility with it, Katsuo's father tried to get David to go back to the Academy so that they could use him as a test subject for cyberware. The plan was to offer him free scholarship, however David refused ignored offer, assuming that a ploy by Katsuo to get revenge. As for Katsuo, his father vaguely stated that as his heir, he would learn what it meant to serve the Arasaka's best interests.[2]

Katsuo would later be hospitalized following the previous incident. His father was due to pick him up once he was discharged, but diverted to pick up an XBD from Jimmy Kurosaki, which turned out to be a trap, as the elder Tanaka was abducted by Maine's crew.[3]
