Kate is a Corporate and a secondary character in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.

Biography

In 2076, Kate, alongside Douglas, investigate the activities of an unknown netrunner targeting Arasaka operatives who attempted to reconstruct the late Tanaka's data. Seeking to turn a fixer to Arasaka's payroll, Kate arranged for Faraday to be ambushed by gangbangers. Predictably, he would feel undervalued by Militech and thus turn collar to Arasaka. Faraday would soon capture the rogue netrunner, Lucyna Kushinada, and discovered that she was trying to cover up that David Martinez was a candidate for the cyberskeleton.

Determined to conduct a field test, Kate and Douglas later observed via drone as Faraday arranged for David and his crew to find the cyberskeleton before they were cornered by Militech. Faraday would then call David using Lucy's voice to manipulate him into installing the cyberskeleton after which the boy would wipe out Militech before the Arasaka recovery team would swoop to collect both him and the suit.

However, what was supposed to be a simple field test soon spiraled out of control, as David failed to wipe out Militech and was racing through Night City towards Arasaka Tower. Douglas reported these events to Kate, who expressed confusion, as David shouldn't have had any knowledge of their direct involvement. Kate then immediately contacted Arasaka Security, even at risk alerting the higher ups, though she assured Douglas that they merely needed to sweep up a storm to hide in the dust. She then cursed Faraday for fumbling their investment.

As MaxTac soon became involved, Kate declared they needed to neutralize David before he could make matters worse for them. Though Douglas stated that David would have to burn out on his own, Kate revealed that she summoned Adam Smasher to deal with the situation. She remarked that pending their field test, the cyberskeleton was designed for him, so it'd be fitting for Smasher to be the one to destroy it.

As Faraday's AV was approaching the tower, it confirmed Kate's suspicions that David was targeting him, not the two of them. She then ordered Douglas to meet with Faraday to collect Lucy but the fixer wasn't allowed to set foot beyond the loading dock. She also made it clear that Douglas was going to be her scapegoat for this whole fiasco.

While Smasher was able to kill David, he failed to keep Lucy from escaping and with her, all the data on the cyberskeleton.
