Grand Illusion
The Grand Illusion is a club located in central Night City.
History
Early history - 2010s
During the 2010s, Grand Illusion was one of the most popular rock clubs on the West Coast. Many famous rock stars had started out in this club, and occasionally paid the Illusion an homage by appearing under assumed names. The establishment was well known for its three bars and hot dance floor.
Unbeknownst to many people, Johnny Silverhand and Kerry Eurodyne bought the club in 2012 and didn't make it public. At some point later, driven by memories and using their influence, both rockers begun an open mike night on Thursdays which was regularly attended by Universal Records executive Jack Masters, the label under which both men recorded. The club also paid the Silver Slash guardian gang to protect the building from any potential trouble.[1]
2020s
By 2020, the Grand Illusion's only purpose was the same as always, music. While patrons were encouraged to party, security in this place was very strict. All weapons had to be checked at the entrance, where everyone was scanned. When leaving, all weapons were returned, even if they were illegal. This was done as a way to show trust in order to get cyberpunks to part with their weapons. The ex-Samurai rock stars were aiming towards the dream of a nonviolent future.
Evie Lark, an undercover NCPD agent, worked as a waitress here while investigating on how to break the control Arasaka had over a local gang.[1]
2070s
In the 2070s, Lizzy Wizzy and other artists had performed in the Grand Illusion.[2]
Notes
- The Grand Illusion is mentioned on a computer at Cynosure Site D in Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty. The message states an employee bought tickets for a Johnny Silverhand concert for October 9, 2013.
- Considering the neighboring Afterlife survived the Night City Holocaust, and that the Grand Illusion is mentioned in Cyberpunk 2077, it is likely the original building also survived the nuke.
