Kansai is a region of Japan in the Cyberpunk series.

Overview

Kansai consisting of the metropolitan region of Osaka, Kobe and Kyoto is the second most populated in Japan after the Greater Tokyo Area in Kanto. The region is a cultural center and the historical heart of Japan, home to what used to the capitals of the country Kyoto and Nara. Many of the big Rockers and media talent comes from Osaka, mostly comedians. While Kyoto is the "History City" and has very refined manners, they and the Osakans are similar to Westerners. They say whats on their mind, and will haggle gleefully for the smallest amount They despise the quiet, haughty Kanto-jin. Kansai people tend to be brash, loud, joyful people.[1]

The Osaka sprawl is made up of three distinct cities. Separated by small mountain ranges, so it's easy to keep local identity instead of being part of the sprawl. Due to Tokyo becoming to big and much space is now being limited, many corporations had moved to Kansai which is slightly cheaper. Osaka is the biggest city in the region and the second largest city in Japan, many skyscrappers and corporations can be found here. Giant media industry and food culture are the embodiment of the what the city has to other, however it's also the center of the Yakuza struggle in all of the country.[2]

Kobe is the industrial center of the region and is full of plants, factories, shipyards, and warehouses. Kobe is home to Port Island with with some EuroCorps still hold plants in. It's also home to many foreigners doing the dirty jobs many Japanese would rather avoid.
