Colonial Pictures is a corporation in the Cyberpunk universe.

History

Early history - 2010s

Colonial was founded by avant-garde movie director Francesco Cippolina and his partner Greg Lukasian. The company gained some fame in the years after the Collapse, producing many movies and TV series. Some of their early productions had been a success, such as Smile of the Lady Xanadu, Messiah of the Endless Sea or Destiny Over Damascus, the last one having a memorable tribute to Orson Welles's The Third Man. In the years following their small success, however, the company descended into trashy obscurity with drive-in double-bill movies such as Killer Mechanoids From the Amazon Planet or Demon in a D-Cup.

At some point between 2013 and 2017, Francesco Cippolina directed a movie based on a book that was based on the taxi company Combat Cabb. It was popular enough that Diverse Media Systems released a successful TV series of the same name in 2017.

In the late 2010s, despite some of the early films being considered classics, Colonial Pictures was struggling. Cippolina's daughter, Magretta, had taken over the reigns of the film studio, and was hoping to one day restore the company that her father had built to its former glory by becoming a leader in the holographic and braindance entertainment industry. To achieve this objective, Magretta entered into a partnership with a small corporation from Europe that had had moderate success in the film and braindance area. The small corp was heavily leveraged and desperately needed a successful project in the following few months. Using her own investment group, Magretta also purchased a major production facility in Night City to renovate it into a state-of-the-art studio.[1]

2020s

By 2020, despite their Night City's studios being under renovations, several new productions were being shot there. Unfortunately, many local corporations had plans for developing the area, and thought the old facility was in their way. There were many "accidents" in the studio, and Colonial executives believed the corps were behind it, though they always find a way to excuse themselves. Magretta was struggling with these incidents, but nonetheless she continued with her work, often visiting the different theaters in Night City to take inspiration.[1]
