Chipware Sockets are Neuralware Cyberware implants in Cyberpunk RED that allow users to utilize various pieces of Chipware.
Overview
A Chipware Socket is a Neuralware Cyberware implant that is installed in the neck. It is required to make use of Chipware and can only be installed at a Clinic at an individual cost of 500 eb. The first time a piece of Chipware is installed, the user suffers Humanity loss, specifically a Humanity Loss of 7 during Character Generation. Reinstalling the same Chipware does not trigger additional Humanity loss. Notably, Chipware does not take up a Neural Link option slot.
Functionality
The Chipware Socket serves as an attachment for the Interface Plugs, allowing the use of up to 10 pieces of Chipware while still permitting the Interface Plugs to be used for Links.
Budget Chipware Socket
A Budget Chipware Socket is a cheaper version of the standard Chipware Socket, which can only be installed at a Clinic at an individual cost of 100 eb. It shares similar installation requirements and Humanity loss effects as the standard version but has the downside of ejecting its Chipware when experiencing head trauma. It has a Humanity Loss of 7 during Character Generation and a loss of 2d6 when installed later.
Chipware Examples
Examples of Chipware that can be used with Chipware Sockets include the PoserChip and the Tactile Boost. The PoserChip costs between 500 to 1000 eb, must be inserted into a Chipware Socket, grants +4 to Acting Checks, and has a Humanity Loss of 14 (4d6). The Tactile Boost costs 100 eb, increases sensitivity of a person's body (specifically their hands), allows users to feel vibrations in the ground from up to 20 meters away, and has a Humanity Loss of 7 during Character Generation, with a loss of 2d6 when installed later.
